Slip Slops offers a beach-themed experience

Established as a relaxed, cool, beach-themed cafe, Slip Slops offers patrons a unique experience.

With a cool, relaxed theme and a variety of unique dishes reminiscent of the beach, Slip Slops offers patrons a unique experience in the heart of Gauteng. The restaurant offers customers unique food and drinks they can enjoy in a relaxed environment.

The first of these restaurants was opened in Noordhoek and is co-owned by brothers Manny and Phillip Myburgh and they partner Elmar de Lange.

Manny explained that the idea behind opening Slip Slops, came from the two brothers wanting to open a restaurant that was cool, relaxed and a reflection of their personalities.

“The name Slip Slops came from our love for flip flops, my brother and I basically live in slip slops and shorts so it had to reflect our personalities,” he said.

He added that opening a second restaurant in Greenside was a natural choice because he’s always loved this part of the world because it reminded him of his travels abroad where he came across street cafés, little shops and generally, a sense of community.

Manny said they faced challenges with the opening and managing both branches.

“Yes, we faced the same challenges in managing any business; that of having the right staff,” he explained.

He jokingly added that another challenge came from the absence of the sea nearby in Greenside, a core theme of the cafe.

The restaurant was opened in Greenside on 19 March.

De Lange, said his involvement came from his contact with the brothers as an employee at their previous restaurant.

“Basically, me and the brothers sat down and discussed the idea of working together and in the end, we decided to do a joint thing,” De Lange said.

The Myburgh brothers began their careers in the food industry in the early 90’s while de Lange joined the family two years ago with 15 years of experience in the industry.
