Autumnal delights at koppies in April

MELVILLE - The seasons have turned and autumn is upon Melville Koppies Nature Reserve.

A number of walks to take place in April will give visitors the chance to see this unique green space in the heart of the city as Mother Nature prepares to don her winter wardrobe.

On 5 April, dog lovers can bring their four-footed friends for an invigorating walk on Melville Koppies West at 8am.

This section of the nature reserve is known for its geographical features such as a high quartzite cliff, the kloof where the Westdene Spruit enters the reserve, and a cave in which Late Stone Age artefacts were found.

On 6 and 20 April, visitors can enjoy a guided walk on Melville Koppies Central at 3pm.

This part of the reserve features densely forested areas, rocky crests, an Iron Age smelting furnace, and the remains of stone-walled cattle kraals.

On 13 April, another guided walk of Melville Koppies Central will take place at 8.30am.
