Five charities get a boost

PARKTOWN - Five charities received a fantastic windfall recently.

The Parktown-based company, Crescent Lifestyle, handed over close to R51 000 to worthy causes at their offices.

The service-orientated company donated R201 860 overall on behalf of its clients which was, according to the company’s managing director, Al-Firnas Patel, a portion of its profit.

The beneficiaries include Gift of the Givers foundation; Al-Imdaad foundation; the Sultanbahu Centre; Muslim Aids Programme; and Sanzaf.

Patel said the charities and non-profit organisations that benefited were chosen by the clients on their membership forms.

“Crescent Lifestyle has taken the responsibility to enhance and uplift the South African community as a whole,” said Patel. “We feel that it is the responsibility of every business to develop and improve our communities.”

Patel said there were many organisations with causes that Crescent Lifestyle supported.

He added, “We thank all of our members for their support and with continued growth and support we aim to hopefully do much more in the future.”

A representative from Gift of the Givers, Fadia Jacobs said the money received would come in handy as the foundation had recently been called on to help in Somalia where the country is struggling with a famine.

“As a non-profit organisation it is always difficult and we recently finished building a shelter in Alexandra,” she said.

“This donation will fill in where it’s needed as the situation in Somalia right now is the worst it’s been in a while.”
