Personalised counselling at schools

JOBURG - The Family Life Centre, well known for their counselling services in Johannesburg, is now offering improved personalised services for schools.

The centre has been operational for the past 25 years and is considered one of the pioneers of counselling services due to its extensive work in communities such as Westbury and Soweto. The personalised service is similar to the the work done in communities but has been tailored to suit schools.

During the 2012/2013 year, 53 245 pupils received counselling through the centre’s various school-based programmes which includes counselling pupils, running support groups and providing a variety of workshops such as violence awareness and anti-bullying.

Different options are available to schools, depending on whether or not they have an in-house counsellor. These include support to the school, individual and group counselling, and services to several groups simultaneously.

“Our services are moulded to accommodate the varying needs and demands pupils and teachers face on an ongoing basis,” director of the Family Life Centre, Pam Gillingham said.

The centre also handles divorce and family mediation to help schools and children cope.

The services are provided to all private and government schools in and around central and northern Johannesburg or at one of The Family Life Centre’s seven offices situated in Johannesburg.
