Bowlers do battle

HOUGHTON - For the second week in a row the Old Ed's bowls men’s 1st team came away with a solid performance against a team at the top of the table, Bryanston.

They recently performed well against Bryanston Sports Club who were at the top, and went one better with two of the fours winning, and winning the game overall against second placed Roosevelt Park.

The team picked up 11 points, taking their score to 19.5 points in just two weeks. This saw the team jump to eighth place on the table.

The league is so close that they are a mere 2.5 points behind the team in fifth place but also only two points ahead of the team in 11th.

They won the match overall by 64 shots to 53 with Roy Lampert’s four getting an easy win and Eric Rosin’s four edging out their opponents in the tightest of matches.

The men’s 2nd team gained six valuable points against Killarney, but they are firmly rooted at the foot of the table and are in grave danger of relegation.

The men’s 3rd team picked up six points but dropped to eighth place after their 48-65 defeat to Rhodes Park; the 4th team had a day to forget gaining just 1 point in their match against Wanderers.

The ladies had contrasting fortunes in their respective matches against Wanderers.

The 1st team playing The Wanderers A team were beaten by 56 shots to 22, and managed to glean just 2.5 points, while in the battle of the B teams, Old Eds came out on top accumulating 10 points in their 46-35 win.

They cemented their second place in the league, but lost ground on Bryanston Sports Club while the 1st team dropped to sixth.
