Police sting leads to arrests

PARKVIEW - The Parkview police, in conjunction with the Community Active Patrol (CAP), conducted a 14-hour joint operation that lead to the arrest of four high-profile criminals on 4 February.

According to CAP spokesperson Gila Klatzkin the suspects were linked to serious crimes, including murder.

Klatzkin said a home invasion occurred in 17th Street in Parkhurst in December last year.

She said, “The suspects fled the scene in the homeowner’s vehicle, which was later recovered in Alexandra.”

“Soon after the recovery, CAP received information regarding the identity of these suspects, who were seen exiting the vehicle and entering a nearby property,” Klatzkin added.

“During the days that followed, this property was monitored and more information was collected.”

She said that on the night of the operation, CAP and Parkview police readied themselves to strike.

“They locked eyes on the targets through live monitoring, verified real-time information, built up a detailed dossier on the suspects and acquired a good understanding of their comings and goings,” she explained.

Several addresses, known to be linked to these suspects, were visited.

Four suspects were arrested, and one firearm along with a significant amount of stolen goods and vehicles were recovered.

“Through analysis and gathering of further information, it is believed that one of the suspects arrested may be linked to a crew that conducted hijackings and kidnappings in 2011 in CAP-patrolled suburbs and surrounding areas,” she added.

An additional suspect may be linked to other incidents in the Parkview Precinct including Emmarentia, Greenside and Parkhurst.

Suspects are being held by Parkview police and investigations continue in an effort to link them to as many cases as possible.

CAP would like to extend its appreciation to the police, paying special tribute to Parkview’s Lieutenant Shezi and his team, and to Colonel Moodley, for their “unerring professionalism and commitment in helping to bring the criminals to justice”.
