JOBURG - The long haul between December and January's payday is over, so why not make the city your playground this weekend?
Here are a few suggestions to help you beat weekend boredom and spend your hard-earned cash in some fun ways.
On 1 February, try some easy-time shopping at Greenside’s Jozi Food Market or Braamfontein’s Neighbourgoods Market.
The outdoor Jozi Food Market offers artisinal food and plenty of space for children to play.
Trendy and vibrant Neighbourgoods Market, housed in a Juta Street building, has grown in popularity due to both its atmosphere and its offerings of fresh farm food and speciality goods.
If you’d prefer to get in touch with your creative side, Wits Art Museum will host Drop in Drawing at 12pm.
Adults are invited to join an experienced art specialist for a fun, informal drawing workshop. No previous experience is necessary, and basic drawing materials will be provided.
Urban music megastar Big Sean will be joined by some of the hottest local urban, hip-hop and electronic music artists at Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square for Axecess Jozi. The music festival kicks off at 2pm.
If you’d prefer to party with a bird’s-eye view of the city, Prestige at Randlords can offer you just that. The well-appointed venue will see a number of DJs take to the decks from 9pm.
On Sunday, browse the arts and crafts of Rosebank’s Finders Keepers Market. Vocalist Hannah Foster will sing at the market from 12pm until 3pm.
Alternatively, head to Maboneng Precinct for food and design paradise, Market On Main. According to its website, the market’s goal is to “encourage inner city lifestyle, learn lots about sustainable living, and provide a relaxed and creative space”.
Also on Sunday, Wits Art Museum Vi Makin will explore some of the African artwork in the museum’s permanent collection at 11am.
