Audition for Alice in Wonderland

BRAAMFONTEIN - If you dream about appearing on stage, the People's Theatre might just make that dream come true.

The theatre will hold auditions for its first production of the year, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, on 28 January.

“We are looking for boys and girls between eight and 12 years old… Actors need to have good singing voices. This is an open audition, [so] hopeful candidates just need to arrive,” said the theatre’s Jill Girard.

The successful candidates will join the rest of the cast of Lewis Carroll’s timeless tale about a young girl who travels to the nonsensical Wonderland. There, Alice meets crazy characters like the White Rabbit, the Dodo, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the hookah-smoking caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and March Hare, and the bad-tempered Queen of Hearts.

Alice in Wonderland boasts a large number of songs, including How Do You Do and Shake Hands, We’ll Smoke the Monster Out, Twas Brillig, and The Caucus Race,” said Girard.

She added that actors needed to be able to start rehearsals from 10 February.

“The show is due to open on 3 March and run until 20 April, with a possible two-week extension.”

Adults’ auditions will take place at the theatre, corner of Loveday and Hoofd streets, Braamfontein, in the morning, and children’s auditions will take place in the afternoon.
