National debating champs to be held at Wits

BRAAMFONTEIN - Wits University will host 250 school learners from across the country when they compete in the South African National Schools' Debating Championships, which begin on 6 December.

The annual competition is expected to attract the best high school debaters in Grades 7 to 12 from all provinces.

Members of the public and other learners are invited to attend the open sessions which will be held at various venues in the Science Stadium, at the Braamfontein West Campus, running until 10 December.

However, the finals, which will be held on 12 December, will be closed off to the public and held at Constitutional Hill, Hillbrow.

Some of the best speakers will go on to compete in the world championships.

South Africa was ranked fourth internationally at the most recent World Schools’ Debating Championships which took place in Turkey.
