Springboks, the legends of Brisbane

CLAD in the legendary Springbok colours, captain Jean de Villiers led the South African national rugby side onto the Brisbane pitch.

Coach Heyneke Meyer is eventually proving to have overcome the first-season blues, but no one could have predicted the result of the game.

Record books now show that the Boks won their first match in Australia in four years, leaving the Wallabies without a win in the 2013 Castle Lager Rugby Championship, with a record 38-12 victory.

It was the biggest win by the Springboks in Australia, and for that, the Boks are without a doubt the newsmaker of the week.

Here’s to hoping they repeat the same performance against the All Blacks in Auckland, New Zealand on 14 September. Coverage from 8.30am on SS1.

The pride of Johannesburg, MTN Golden Lions, breaks the ice weekend sporting on 13 September, taking on Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein in the Absa Currie Cup.
