City Power employees caught offside

STRIKING City Power employees sabotaged the electricity grid to show their unhappiness with their employer regarding the implementation of a shift system.

Yes, forget the political correctness, the workers did sabotage the electricity system. It is impossible that parts of Johannesburg could plunge into darkness on the day they went on strike.

Typical during the strike season, the action was taken without consideration for the city’s residents. That’s taking their democratic right to strike to the limit. For all the wrong reasons, City Power employees are newsmakers of the week.

In other news, the Economic Freedom Front was eventually registered as a political party under the leadership of the maverick Julius Malema. And he wants to rule the country? Bantu Holomisa, Patricia Le Lille and Mosiuoa Lekota talked big too, but never got anywhere near the throne.

Wits University fired yet another senior official for making sexual advances to students via SMS and on social media networks.

Also this week, Pikitup boss Amanda Nair was accused of being embroiled in a jobs-for-pals scandal. Until government declares war against corrupt public officials, such acts will continue. The likes of Nair know nothing will happen to them.

Duck and dive President Jacob Zuma said he had never listened to the spy tapes that were instrumental in corruption charges being dropped against him.

Well, speak to the hand Mr President. Why were your lawyers in the High Court in Pretoria on 6 September seeking leave to appeal against an order for the tapes to be handed over to the Democratic Alliance?

In sport, on 7 September, the Springboks are away to Australia in a Castle Lager Rugby Championship round three tie. Coverage on SS2 from 11.45am.

From 2.30pm, also on SS2, MTN Golden Lions invade the Northern Cape for a Absa Currie Cup clash against Gwk Griquas.

At 3.30pm, Bafana Bafana will be looking for nothing but victory in the world cup qualifier against Botswana at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Coverage on SABC1.

Happy weekend Joburg.
