Forest Town celebrates spring in the streets

FOREST TOWN – As scores of people descended upon Zoo Lake for the annual Jazz on the Lake concert, residents gathered in their streets for the annual Spring Day street party.

The party, held at the intersection of Sherwood, Wychwood and Cowie roads, featured fun activities for the whole family, and this year’s party saw the first Forest Town Derby Challenge.

Parents and children enjoyed a band, a jumping castle, pony rides and face painting. People had the option of bringing a plate of eats for the Harvest Table or a picnic basket.

The derby, organised by The Ridge School Grade 7 pupil Sebastian Mumbi, included three races; the Cheetah Race for ages three and up, the Rhino Race for ages seven and up, and the Snake Race for ages 12 and up.

Resident Margot Cohen said she was delighted with the success of the event, organised by the suburb’s ratepayers association.

“It was lovely to see people getting to know each other and having fun together. We live in such an interesting suburb, with such a broad spectrum of people. It was good to see our community join together for the street party,” she said.
