St John’s College head of music guides Mzansi Youth Choir

Famed choir master and head of Music at St John’s College in Houghton, Sidumo Nyamezele is leading the Mzansi Youth Choir towards the America’s Got Talent finals.

St John’s College head of African Music, Sidumo Nyamezele has guided the Mzansi Youth Choir to the America’s Got Talent final.

This is a huge achievement for both St John’s College and South Africa. The final is set to take place on September 26.

Nyamezele has been a guiding force behind the choir’s success. The choir was part of St John’s College’s 125th birthday celebrations in August. Led by Nyamezele, the celebrated choir performed several songs, including their cover of It’s OK, the song that earned them the first-ever group Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent. This year, Nyamezele celebrates his milestone with St John’s College. It was 20 years ago when he first became involved with the school, playing a fundamental role in building an African music repertoire and creating a choir skilled in both secular and African music.
