Building materials store catches fire in Craighall

There were no injuries or fatalities.

Fire Ops SA, Medi Response and the City of Joburg’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) attended to a building materials store fire on Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall on the evening of July 28.
Medi Response responsed to the scene.
“Earlier this evening [July 28] our Operations Control Center was alerted to a large building that was a blaze in the Craighall area of Johannesburg. The rapid response of both medical and fire resources and the brilliant work of the firefighters on the scene ensured that the fire was contained and did not spread to surrounding infrastructure,” said Medi Response in a statement.

The incident took place on Jan Smuts Avenue.
According to Nana Radebe-Kgiba spokesperson of the City of Joburg EMS, three fire engines were dispatched and on arrival, the top floor of the double-storey warehouse was on fire. “It took almost three hours to extinguish the flames and fortunately, there were no casualties,” she said.

Fire Safety is still busy with preliminary investigations to establish what caused the fire.
