The Johannesburg Zoo is asking locals to donate pruned trees

The Johannesburg Zoo is collecting pruned trees for its animals. Trees such as tamboti, knot tree and bush willow are accepted.

The Johannesburg Zoo is browsing for leaves and pruned tree leaves. Maintaining a normal diet and providing enrichment to the animals is important to the zoo. Many of the zoo residents enjoy a good browse and some of them are big feeders. As such, the zoo needs to maintain a healthy stockpile for them to enjoy as part of their regular enrichment.

The Johannesburg Zoo would appreciate the following pruned trees which include:

  • Sickle bush tree
  • Tamboti
  • Knot tree
  • Bush willow
  • Buffalo thorn
  • Mulberry
  • White stinkwood
  • Rhus Lance
  • False olive

For further information, the public can call Piet Malepa 082 437 0266; Philemon Magoba 067 055 0002; Richard Shirinda 078 540 2043.
