Caylib Nell to represent SAPS Parkview in the district debate competition.

Schools in the neighborhood were invited to compete and raise awareness about school violence, teen pregnancy, and other issues affecting teenagers.

Leaners from Roosevelt High School participated in the SAPS Junior Project Debate to encourage student leadership and raise awareness of issues that might affect them in the classroom. This comes after the junior commissioner project was held in Marks Park, Emmarentia, by the commander of the Parkview Police Station in collaboration with management and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).

The project is one of several programmes designed to enhance and promote the safety of learners and faculty in classrooms. Caylib Nell was chosen for the highest honour of junior station commander, while Aaliyah Adams was chosen for junior support services.
Caylib was also selected to represent SAPS Parkview in the district competition as a junior station commander. “I am prepared and honoured to take the troubled youth of today to become our future leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

The topic of the debate was: “Learners in Gauteng have experienced gruesome incidents of crime such as bullying, robbery, theft, gangsterism, murder, teenage pregnancy, and substance abuse.
“What strategy, approach, or plan would you pursue as a station commander in terms of crime prevention, fighting crime, building partnerships, and participating in a school safety programme to reduce such incidents.”

Communication officer at Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko added, “The junior commissioner project offers an opportunity to invest in young people, and it is an empowerment tool that aims to instil leadership, mentorship, and moral and ethical values in the youth.
