Sacred Heart College basketball coach, Raesetša Tolo reminisces on her team’s performance.

Tolo said 2023 has been an exciting year for basketball.

“Last term, the basketball programme focused on adapting to the set plays that teach our students how to get maximum points and playtime in favour of our team. Seeing that most fundamentals are well executed. Our coaches raised the bar and our students followed through swiftly.”

She added that the new students expressed their gratitude for being part of a team that is rooted in dynamics while accommodating beginners and new team players.

After winning league titles for the past three seasons, the senior teams took up a different challenge by entering the (American International School Johannesburg) AISJ basketball tournament where we saw our girls’ team claiming victory and winning their final match against Waterford Kamhlaba United School from Swaziland.

Tolo noted that students were encouraged to play with heart, and witnessed the boys’ basketball team do exactly that, when they lost in the quarter-finals.

“The St John’s tournament is another big annual competition where over eighty schools take part and our boys’ team was placed seventh after giving a good push.”
