The man responsible for randomly firing shots in public spaces has been arrested

A suspect was arrested by the Norwood police after security personnel reported him for randomly firing shots in a public place.

A man, who posed a danger to members of the public as he randomly fired shots on the Norwood streets next to a pub, was arrested by the Norwood police.

On April 9 at 16:00, Norwood police were called to assist private security members, according to spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha. On arrival, security personnel pointed out the suspect.
Police asked to search the man and his motor vehicle, and under the driver’s seat found a gun with the serial number filed off. “When questioned, the owner of the vehicle failed to produce a firearm licence or provide any satisfactory explanation for being in possession of a firearm. Seven empty cartridges were found on the scene as proof of what they had been told by security personnel,” said Masotsha.

The suspect was detained at Norwood Police Station for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

Station commander Colonel Logan Govender applauded both police members and the private security company members for working together.

Details: Report all illegal activities on 086 001 0111 or to Norwood Police Station on 011 483 4609/14.
