St Mary’s School, Waverley, wins both the Premier and A inter-high galas

A local school based in Waverley flew their school flag high at the premier inter-high gala.

The A team swimmers from St Mary’s School, Waverley, brought home the Premier inter-high gala trophy for the second consecutive year.

The gala was at St Stithians School’s aquatic centre on February 21, and 10 girls’ schools from Gauteng competed in this gala.

According to the head of swimming at St Mary’s School, Waverley, Cindy Brown, the St Mary’s A team placed first with 399 points, followed by St Stithians Girls’ College in second place with 344 points and St Andrew’s School for Girls in third place with 343 points.

“Not to be outdone, the St Mary’s B swimming team also took top honours by winning the A inter-high gala.”

Brown elaborates that the St Mary’s B team beat the A swimming teams from Jeppe High School for Girls, St Catherine’s School, and St Teresa’s School.

“This is the first time that St Mary’s has won both the Premier and A inter-high galas in the same year, which is an exceptional achievement and shows the depth of talent at St Mary’s.”

She concludes by saying that these results can be attributed to the swimmers’ hard work throughout the season and that this is something that each swimmer should be proud of.
