Locals show off their running skills for the Pirates over the mountain 21km race
Pirates Road Running Club was founded in 1977 and is a social club for runners of all abilities.
With hills surrounding the Greenside area, the Pirates Road Running Club hosted its ‘over the mountain’ 21km race on February 19 which saw runners finishing at Pirates Club.
Runner Matheu Mokgata said despite the race being challenging he was glad to have finished it.
“It was difficult from the first kilometre because it was an uphill which made me walk [during] the race. It was my second time participating and I will be sure to return again next year.”
Participant Emma Pallant broke the women’s running record in a time of 01: 21:07.
Another participant Lawrence Chauke said the race was a fun challenge.
“Running over the hills was tough but good practice because I want to run in the Comrades Marathon this year.”
