ORT SA headquarters in Houghton goes green

ORT SA installed solar at their premise as yet another way to implement solutions that will help accelerate and prioritise the delivery of targeted environmental social governance measures.

ORT SA’s Ceo, Ariellah Rosenberg said in line with delivering lasting change and impact, ORT SA established ‘SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Champions’ and ‘Green Champions’, which is a team that focuses on growing the organisation’s understanding of challenges and opportunities.

“The team is committed to minimising the impact of environmental hazards by implementing Sdg 12, responsible consumption and production, through a waste management plan to target a goal of 12.5, which consists of prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse.”

In a media release, the Ceo added that the organisation was developing initiatives which would focus on emerging opportunities from other broader sectors and existing projects to see how their Sdg framework can be updated to align more with identified sustainable development goals as per ORT’s focus areas and cater to the nation’s needs.

Rosenberg added that the United Nation index released a report about strengths and weaknesses of each country.

According to the United Nations 2021 Africa Sdg Index and Dashboards Report South Africa on the Sdg Global Rank is positioned 107 out of 165 with an index score of 63.7 versus a regional average of 51.9.

ORT SA’s Ceo concluded by saying the organisation aligns its various projects and programmes with sustainable development goals, educating and empowering all the beneficiaries with green skills and green education, which would contribute to achieving specific UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“The organisation plans to engage beneficiaries with knowledge, values, attitude, and skills, placing beneficiaries with work hosts that is Sdg focused and implementing Sdg target goals in business for those who are trained in an entrepreneurial programme.”
