Teamwork makes the dream work

"It's not the team with the best players that wins; it's the players with the best team that wins," Grace of the Parks says.

Keeping their heads up and doing what they love, the Parks Netball team is confident that 2023 will be their best year as a team.

The Parkhurst-based netball team hopes to play in a league this year, which is why they are organising a tournament at the beginning of February to try and get exposure and sponsorship.

The co-founder of the Parks Netball team Grace Matoni said 2022 was challenging for the team but they pulled through.

Back: Nandi Nkomonye, Clara Sithole, Portia Manyeza, Jessica Moyo, and Tshengi Moyo, front: Busi Zikhali and Sindi Mpofu unwind after they had demonstrated their netball skills in a tournament.

“Due to a lack of finances, we could not get into a league but we managed to have about five friendly games of which two were away and three at our courts.”

She added that they won a trophy and gold medals in the Brixton Multipurpose September/October tournaments.

“Perseverance has carried us through as we are mostly domestic workers who individually work different hours and the summer heat netball tournament will help in putting us in the public eye. Everyone is invited and female players aged 17 and upwards can play for R800 per team.”

Venue: TBC
Date and Time: February 4, 09:30
