Parkview Saps urge the public to be vigilant

With the festive season fast approaching, Parkview's police spokesperson shares safety tips.

Parkview police shared safety tips for motorists and residents.

Parkview Police Station spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said they had seen an increase in theft in the Parkview policing precinct.

The police issued the following safety tips for residents and motorists as preventative measures:

  • Ensure your vehicle is locked and your alarm system is activated even if you will only be away from the vehicle for a few minutes
  • Never leave valuables such as jewellery, laptops, cellphones, and handbags unattended
  • Never leave your car unlocked even for a few minutes

  • An audible alarm, which activates as soon as the door or window is opened or broken, attracts attention that a criminal does not want
  • The quicker a stolen vehicle is reported the better chance of recovery
  • Always make every effort to park behind a locked gate
  • Residents must also avoid parking their vehicles on the street or in the driveway as the criminals see this as an opportunity to break into the cars.
  • Avoid putting valuable items into the vehicle while anyone is watching.
