Blairgowrie Community Association gets behind All Spruits Clean-Up Day
Families, scouts, residents associations, non-profit organisations, and other groups came with hats on, gloves on and even some wore gumboots.
Blairgowrie residents showed tremendous support for the All Spruits Clean-Up Day on September 17.
In the afternoon entertainment and activities were even provided at Delta Park and along the Braamfontein Spruit cleanups because most of the work was done in the morning, before the day became too hot.
Families, scouts, residents’ associations, non-profit organisations, and other groups came wearing hats, gloves and others even wore gumboots.
They waded into the water if they had to, as everyone made it a point to clean up the greenbelt.
“I’m very impressed with how well it all went and the support shown by residents,” said Blairgowrie Community Association chairperson, Margie Roper.
“It meant we did not take that long at all, and collected many bags of rubbish. The river is looking so clean now.”
The association estimated 8.2 tonnes of waste were collected across the 24 pickup points along the spruit.
Ward 99 councillor, Nicole van Dyk called the turnout from the community one of the best she has seen at the annual event.
“I look forward to next year, and hope with Delta Park being a flagship park there will be more money allocated to park rangers there,” she said.
