Nelson Mandela Month highlights importance of ubuntu

Volunteering is a step to making the world a better place.

July is known as Nelson Mandela Month to celebrate the life and legacy of our former president. On Nelson Mandela Day, July 18, people are urged use 67 minutes of their time to support a chosen charity or serve in their local community.

The Rosebank Killarney Gazette team asked Parktown residents and employees about the importance of volunteering. This is what they had to say…

PRETTY GULE: Volunteering is important, especially for people who cannot do certain simple things on their own, so them knowing help is available at no cost impacts them positively.
JACQUI SMITH: Volunteering is a full-circle cycle. I see it when high school learners visit and help the elderly people at Park Care in whatever way they can; which benefits them as well with their community service hours.
NDIVHALENI MASUTHA: Small, kind gestures of assistance always go a long way – whether it’s in one’s household or community. Volunteering is important because it encourages unity.
