Sibeko said the complainant and her friends sustained injuries while trying to restrain the suspect. All the victims received medical attention.

The police were summoned to the scene.

“On their arrival, the suspect’s bag was searched and a laptop, charger and hard drive belonging to the victim were recovered.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect gained entry by forcing the wooden doors open.

The suspect was arrested and will appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon to answer against the charges against him. The investigation is continuing.

Sibeko suggested the following tips to prevent house robberies:

  • Always be on the lookout for suspicious persons and vehicles
  • Enhance security by fitting access doors with security gates and instal burglar bars on windows
  • Request neighbours to keep an eye on the house when you go away for an extended period
  • Do not open gates and doors for strangers
  • Verify the details of anyone before you employ them and check the authenticity of a contractor before you allow them access to the premises.
