Volunteers needed to get their hands dirty at Zoo Lake
PARKVIEW – Volunteers are encouraged to get their hands dirty with the team at Zoo Lake on Thursday mornings between 09:00 and 13:00 or sponsor a gardener to lend a hand on the day.
The Zoo Lake Users Committee appealed to local residents to assist them in completing the erosion project around the lake through sponsorship of materials, financial donations and labour.
The west side of the lake has recently reached completion with beautiful beds filled with indigenous plants which bind the soil preventing it from eroding.
Chairperson of the Zoo Lake Users Committee, Fran Haslam said she was thankful for the volunteers, generous sponsors and labourers who have assisted to make this possible.
Assistance was still needed to landscape the area around the selfie sign at the Ennis Road entrance. Donations of gabion baskets were also necessary to secure the bank at this corner.
Eco fencing would need to be installed on this side of the lake, which required sponsorship.
“It is against the law to have a water body open without the installation of a fence. This will help secure this space, particularly for small children,” said Haslam.
Beautiful marigolds draw eyes as locals park their cars at the former Moyo car park, however, more assistance was needed to complete the beautification process around the lake.
