Norwood SAPS arrests 79 suspects in December

NORWOOD – The police arrested a total of 79 offenders during that time.

The Norwood Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha shared that at least 79 suspects were arrested for various crimes in December last year.

Topping the list were various forms of assault totalling 28 suspects. For theft-related offences as well as possession of stolen items, 24 were arrested.

For driving offences, four were arrested while one was arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle.

One suspect was arrested for contempt of court and seven for the Disaster Management Act (curfew) infringement. Two suspects were arrested for fraud; two for possession of a dangerous weapon, one for pointing a firearm and three for trespassing. A few more suspects were arrested for other crimes including dealing in dagga and business robbery.

“The total number of arrests is the reflection of how positively we are responding to crime. If any member of the public was assaulted in any form of domestic violence, we do affect an arrest with immediate effect. We also affect an arrest if it’s a theft of a motor vehicle,” Sergeant Masotsha said.

He further encouraged members of the public to keep on working very closely with the police by giving a tip-off either on illegal dealing of any kind or possession which looks very suspicious by dialling 080 010 111 or 011 483 4609/12/14.
