‘What a ride it’s been’ – Parkview Residents’ Association looks back on 2021

PARKVIEW – The Parkview Residents' Association has experiences highs and lows during 2021, but remains optimistic about 2022.

Caryl Kelly, marketing and communication: Parkview Residents’ Association, has called 2021 a ‘bustling and productive’ year for the association.

She addresses residents on the PRA’s successes and challenges during this past year:

“We feel incredibly lucky to be living in Parkview with our wonderful park, beautiful tree-lined streets, our special Parkview Golf Course, and spectacular Zoo Lake right on our borders. We have exceptional schools in our suburb and hardworking churches that contribute tremendously to our community, not to mention our quaint shopping strip in Tyrone Ave. Parkview is extra special because of its residents and all the activities that happen in the community, and it was recently named by its members as ‘The Village in the City’.

The PRA is extremely grateful to the Parkview community for their contributions this past year, either through volunteering, financial and/or donations-in-kind. We also had numerous sponsors who supported our events. Much time and energy went into a variety of maintenance and upgrading projects and these have resulted in an even more beautiful Parkview. We partnered closely with the South African National Blood Service and our residents proudly donated 327 units of blood during 2021. We continue to run our Community Assistance Group, and organised and supported numerous initiatives that aid the poor and hungry in our city.

We applaud the volunteers that serve on the PRA and its subcommittees and our generous residents. Thanks to these incredible people, our streets are safer and cleaner, our heritage preserved, our park maintained and improved, and there are countless activities for our children and families. These small things make a difference and we express our gratitude to every person who serves this community and responds to our countless requests.

We also thank our Ward 87 councillor, Bridget Steer, for her hard work and relentless support and congratulate her on her re-appointment as ward 87’s councillor again.

The PRA wishes all its residents and friends of Parkview a happy and restful festive season. Be safe, be responsible, stay vigilant, and may 2022 hold much promise and blessing for you.”

Kelly said that the PRA realised that 2021 was a challenging year for many residents and local businesses and hopes that 2022 will be a blessed and brighter year for everyone. “We don’t expect it to be easy, but we want next year to be an exceptional one in which we can do good for our beautiful world, our country, our city, our people and Parkview!”
