Determination and courage give Kingsmead College an edge

ROSEBANK – Kingsmead College has risen to the challenge through innovative ways of making the school environment adaptable.

While this year brought with it many complexities, Kingsmead College in Rosebank is grateful for all it has managed to achieve.

Executive head Lisa Palmer said, “In this year we have learned new ways to live with the pandemic and have made the most of the time that we have been able to spend on our beautiful campus with our students. Teaching, learning, sport and events have all had to be reimagined and we applaud our students for their ability to adapt to the changing circumstances with grit, determination and courage.”

She added that Kingsmead Junior School continues to be a centre of excellence in terms of curriculum development as they look at different ways of leveraging their accreditation from Exeter University as an Advanced Thinking School.

“Our growth curriculum in the senior school is a bespoke, innovative, and well-researched curriculum that teaches our students to think ‘out the box’ and prepares them for real-world scenarios while teaching interesting, dynamic, and thought-provoking content. We are proud of our academic achievements and look forward to highlighting these more in 2022.”

Palmer said their signature event, the Kingsmead Book Fair, was held virtually in May this year with an incredible programme that honoured mainly African authors. While they enjoyed being able to celebrate this annual event, they really hope to be back in person in some form next year.

She thanked to the school’s ‘superb staff’ for all they have done for the learners this year as well as the Kingsmead community for their unwavering support and guidance during this period.

Palmer concluded, “The coming year will no doubt bring with it new challenges but we have certainly learned to be flexible and adaptable. We look forward to the new opportunities next year will bring.

“We wish our Kingsmead families and the wider community a healthy, safe and blessed festive season and a wonderful start to 2022.”
