Parktown Girls’ Neon Run brings colour to school community

PARKTOWN – Kerry Liss, marketing and communications for the school, arrived with her husband, Warren and sons, Nathan and Jordan, to participate.

About R14 000 was raised towards the Parktown Sports Programme at the Parktown High School For Girls’ Neon Night Run on October 29.

The event drew close to 300 participants, including families, with children and some excited dogs who arrived to run alongside their owners.

Kerry Liss, marketing and communications for the school, arrived with her husband, Warren and sons, Nathan and Jordan, to participate. She described the evening as ‘a perfect, warm Johannesburg evening’.

“Everyone came dressed in their best neon attire,” she told the Gazette. “Glow sticks were sold at the entrance and you could even have your face painted with neon face paint.” Fortunately, by the time Friday evening’s storm hit, the race was already over.

Liss gave special thanks to the Parktown Girls Support Girls. “These girls volunteered to help on the evening and were positioned along the route. These girls cheered the runners [and many walkers] on with their glow sticks and encouraging words, which made a huge difference.”

She said this was the first time Parktown Girls had held this event, and she was sure it would become an annual event.
