Shoplifters arrested in Illovo and Bramley Gardens

BRAMLEY – Shoplifting does not pay off, as three shoplifters in the Illovo and Bramley Gardens areas recently found out, when they were arrested for their dubious acts.

Local shoplifters recently had to face the mighty arm of the law when they were arrested by the Bramley police.

Spokesperson Captain Molefi Mogodi explained that the arrests happened in two separate incidents: the first in Illovo, and the second, in Bramley Gardens.

He said that on Monday, September 13, police were called to a supermarket in Illovo where a woman had been arrested for stealing from the store. “It is alleged that two customers, a man and a woman, were seen through surveillance cameras putting groceries into their shopping bags,” he said.

“The man then went out of the store, carrying nothing, while the woman proceeded to the exit having goods which were allegedly unpaid for. She was arrested and will soon appear in court.”

In the second incident, a Bramley Gardens store owner was notified by his employee that two women were acting suspiciously in his store. “The complainant allegedly kept watch over them until the two women went out of the store,” he said.

“He followed them, and they started to run toward a parked vehicle.” Mogodi said that a packet of Pampers allegedly fell from one of the women’s arms as she was running. “The driver of the getaway vehicle sped off leaving the two women behind,” he said.

The women were apprehended and handed over to the police for detention and further investigation.
