Parkview police appeal to the community to assist with information

PARKVIEW – Parkview police appeal to the community to assist with information about robbery cases.

The Parkview Policing Precinct has experienced an increase in common robberies since the beginning of July.

The suburbs affected are Sector 1 Craighall Park, Parkhurst and Sector 2 Emmarentia, Greenside, Parkview and Parktown. These crimes are committed by males driving a Toyota Corolla or VW Polo.

Parkview Police Station Commander Colonel Theledi Gopane said that numerous cases of common robberies were reported at the station with the same modus operandi. On July 31 at about 21:00, the complainant alleged that he was on the corner of 4th Avenue and 14th street in Parkhurst, waiting for an e-hailing transport when an unknown man grabbed his cellphone and jumped into a blue VW Polo and drove off.

In another incident in Greenside on Gleneagles Road at about 20:00m the complainant was outside and an unknown man came from behind, grabbed her cellphone and ran to a silver Toyota car and drove off. Parkview detectives are investigating cases of common robbery.

Police caution residents, while waiting for e-hailing transport or in public places, to keep their valuables safe and to avoid using cellphones in a public place as it gives the criminals an opportunity to steal from them.

The police appeal to the community to assist with information that could lead to the possible arrest of the suspects.

Anyone with information may contact Parkview SAPS on 011 067 6000 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS App.
