Bramley police thank community for successful apprehension of alleged robber

KEW – “We are happy with the action of some of the community members who did not stand aside and ignore crime happening,” said Mogodi.

Bramley police have praised community members for the successful apprehension of a 26-year-old male suspect following an alleged business robbery on August 12 in Kew.

Spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi said, “It is alleged that the suspect, who was not alone at the time, entered the business where they found the receptionist.”

Mogodi said one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and threatened the receptionist who was ordered to keep quiet while the suspects helped themselves to cellphones and a laptop.

“The suspects were leaving the business when the victim screamed for help. The community members came to assist her and one suspect was apprehended and handed over to police.”

Mogodi said the stolen items were recovered except for the laptop.

Police are searching for the remaining suspects as well as the firearm allegedly used during the incident.

“We are happy with the action of some of the community members who did not stand aside and ignore crime happening.”

He added that on August 12, Bramley SAPS made arrests in relation to the following crimes: theft, contempt of court, reckless and negligent driving of a motor vehicle, malicious damage to property and assault.

Mogodi said in Marlboro, two people were arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence while another suspect was arrested for the same charge in Kew.

“We have also managed to close down three unlicensed liquor premises.”
