Police arrest suspect for Orange Grove murder

ORANGE GROVE – Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said, “The suspect will appear before a court of law in due course for murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition."

Norwood police have arrested a suspect for a murder which took place at a well-known lodge in Orange Grove on July 31.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said that on July 31 at 21:30, a man was shot dead at the lodge.

Masotsha said it is alleged that two cars followed one another into the lodge where a security officer opened the gate for them.

Later on, the security officer heard a gunshot and then saw a man jumping into one of the vehicles.

“The perpetrator threatened the security guard, forcing him to open the gate by pointing a firearm at him,” said Masotsha.

He explained that a case docket for murder was opened at the station, prompting an investigation.

The police managed to track and arrest the suspect in Orange Farm on August 2. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“We thank the community members who came forward with information that led to the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect will appear before the court of law in due course for murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition,” concluded Masotsha.
