The Craighall Residents Association faces the pandemic head on

CRAIGHALL – The Craighall Residents Association launches it’s Covid-19 Relief Programme to beat the pandemic, hands on.

The Craighall Residents Association (CRA) launched their Covid Relief Programme in July this year.

The programme addresses needs identified in the community covering Craighall Park, Craighall and Dunkeld West. Covid-19 continues to test our resolve, threaten lives and livelihoods, and through this initiative the association believes that it is essential to continue to confront and deal with the challenges and effects of this pandemic head on to beat it. The initiatives covered by the programme, with a budget allocation of R60 000, include a focus on vaccination, providing food security for the most vulnerable in the community, and helping local restaurants get through this lockdown period, through active promotion of and collaboration with restaurants, many of which are CRA business members.

Dealing with the pandemic and the threat that come with it, it is best approached by gathering resources, having a plan and executing to get the best result with what we have. The local community has been awesome in its support, as seen through the BreadCrumbs’ “Vaccination Bus”, founded by Leigh Crymble, a Craighall Park resident. The CRA is a proud sponsor and partner for this initiative. Under this initiative Leigh and the BreadCrumbs’ team coordinate transport to public vaccination sites, using out of work school transport drivers, to allow qualifying people to get vaccinated. This allows “vaccination guests” a seamless experience, that typically takes 3 hours or less door to door. Rather than a daunting 5 hour or even all-day trip, while experiencing something new and unknown during a disconcerting time. Crymble and the team ensure everyone is vaccination ready and accompany vaccination guests on the journey.

Other programs, revolving around food security, include sponsoring the 1st Craighall Sunrise Pack’s Bags of Hope – a repeat of the 2020 Jars of Hope Scout’s Soup programme and further public feeding schemes including a pavement garden. “We are extremely proud of our community and the way a lot of people have turned up. The more you do, however, often opens your eyes as to how much needs to be done. We have launched a donation drive where 100% of all donations during July and August will be allocated to the programme,” said Markus Borner, chairperson of the CRA.

“We have had a great positive increase in membership this year more than doubling our membership, which we would like to thank all new and returning members for their support. Membership allows us to do these things, so, if you are a Craigpark resident, complex or business, and haven’t already done so, please do consider joining us as a paid-up member which can be done through our website,” he added.
