Norwood CPF’s efforts in keeping the community safe
NORWOOD – The Norwood CPF gives an update about the unrest after a meeting with the Norwood police.
The Norwood Community Police Forum (CPF) ‘s update on security measures put in place in the area and surrounds after a meeting between the police and the CPF team. The Norwood CPF and police reassured community members that they are prepared and in constant communication with surrounding police stations to gather information and to call upon them should there be a need for additional support.
Due to the protest action, Balfour Mall is closed and Melrose Arch has resumed normal trading with banking facilities, some restaurants and stores are closed. Melrose Arch management urges shoppers to call the stores beforehand to ensure if they are open.
Wayne Preston, the chairperson of the Norwood CPF, said in the statement that Bidvest and security company SSG, will be deploying helicopters to recon and supply feedback to their joint operations control. The Norwood CPF’s joint operations are also monitoring radios and community WhatsApp groups for additional information surrounding the unrest.
“Our community in blue (CIB) patrollers will also get rolling on July 14,” said Preston.
“It is important that we continue sharing and verifying information. The public order policing services and South African Defence Force is a call away,” he added.
All neighbouring police stations are on standby should we experience any violence to respond as backup support. “Our local security forces have been very visible and are working as a team. Minimise your movements to keep their eyes and ears open,” added Preston
