Police search for suspects linked to an attempted armed robbery in Craighall Park

CRAIGHALL PARK – Local security officer hailed for his bravery.

Parkview police are on the hunt for suspects involved in last nights’ attempted robbery on July 7.

The spokesperson for Parkview Police Station, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, said the complainant and owner of the business alleged that he heard a man screaming in the shop that is interlinked to where they reside. He activated the panic button at 19:40 on July 7.

The complainant added that he heard gunshots outside the business. “The complainant was informed that there was a man pretending to be a customer, who then [allegedly] produced a firearm demanding the cashier open the gate. Before the cash could be handed over, a CAP security vehicle pulled up outside the shop,” explained Sibeko.

The suspects then ran outside without the money. Several shots were fired between the suspects and a CAP security officer outside the business. A CAP security vehicle was shot multiple times and the security officer sustained an injury on his left arm. The security officer is receiving medical attention.

The suspects fled the scene of the crime in a silver motor vehicle.

CAP Security said, “We would like to commend our officer’s efforts and applaud his bravery and thank him for his service. Our investigation teams are busy following up all leads and we will work with the SAPS to ensure that justice is served.”
