Cashiers are injured during an armed robbery at grocery store

SANDRINGHAM – Police are appealing to anyone with information to help them arrest 10 suspects who injured cashiers during a robbery.

Police are seeking information from the public to help apprehend 10 suspects who robbed groceries on George Avenue on July 5.

At about 15:30, one unknown suspect allegedly pointed a gun at a teller who was at the till helping customers and demanded cash. He allegedly assaulted him with a firearm.

According to Sandringham police spokesperson Warrant Officer Aaron Lebuso, the suspect took out the whole tray with an unknown amount of cash while the other suspects were also busy removing till trays with cash inside.

“There were about 10 suspects,” said Lebuso. He said they took four cash trays with an undisclosed amount of cash during the robbery. Two cashiers were allegedly assaulted with a gun. After the incident, the suspects subsequently ran out to their gateway vehicles and left the scene.

“They were driving a Nissan Almera, Polo and Mercedes and they were all armed with firearms,” he said.
Lebuso said according to the centre management, there are cameras inside and outside. “Cash taken is unknown at this moment. There was no shooting,” he said.
