Radiation oncology back on at CMJAH

PARKTOWN – Radiation oncology is the only service offered with plans to include number of patients in the next few days.

A few months after a fire in a section of the hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Hospital reopened one of its units on 28 June.

In posts shared by Gauteng Province on Twitter, the radiation oncology unit of the hospital had been reopened.
CEO of the hospital Gladys Bogoshi said they had booked 13 patients for the day.

“These are the patients that had already started treatment. At the end of the day, we will see how things went so to see if we can increase the numbers and if so by how much.

“The hospital is not open for any other thing except for radiation oncology. Those who are coming for radiation oncology will be called by doctors or nurses from the department and they will then tell them on which date to come,” Bogoshi added.

She urged others to continue collecting their medication or attending treatment as directed to.
Head of the department at the radiation oncology unit, Dr Duvern Ramiah said they had been really looking forward to opening again as the key public radiation provider in Johannesburg.

“It’s been very difficult for staff and patients to get treatment elsewhere. We will reassess the patients that are here today and get their radiation restarted,” added Ramiah.

The emergency department at the hospital remained closed with no walk-ins at this stage.

Details: Radiation oncology patients at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital can call 011 481 2103/4 for enquiries.
