Learn more about lean at Balfour Mall awareness campaign

HIGHLANDS NORTH – Visit the campaign on 26 June between 10am and 1pm at Balfour Mall at the corner of Athol Road and Johannesburg Road, Highlands North.

Community members are invited to attend an awareness campaign against drug abuse and misuse at Balfour Mall in Highlands North on 26 June.

The event aims to shed light on the abuse of codeine in the form of the drug ‘lean’.

The #LeanOnMe campaign involves members from LifeLine, the Norwood Community Policing Forum, Norwood SAPS, The Norwood Victim Empowerment Unit and the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) joining forces to deal with the scourge.

Chairman of the Norwood CPF Wayne Preston explained that lean is a highly addictive drug which is a mixture of cough mixture and fizzy drink, causing a sense of euphoria.

“The addiction affects youth as the ingredients are easily accessible and inexpensive,” said Preston.

The event coincides with International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held on 26 June.

Visit the campaign between 10am and 1pm at Balfour Mall at the corner of Athol Road and Johannesburg Road, Highlands North.
