PARKVIEW – The sentence is six years&39; imprisonment suspended for five years on certain conditions.

A recent conviction on an arrest that happened in 2020 was most welcome by the Parkview Police Station.

Spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko revealed that 24-year-old Andile Madlala was on 13 May found guilty of housebreaking and theft by the Johannesburg Regional Court.

“On 30 December 2020, the suspect broke into the Zoo Lake Bowling Club guard room. Electric appliances and a security officer’s bulletproof vest was stolen. A case of housebreaking and theft was opened. An investigation led to the arrest of the accused at Zoo Lake, where he was found burning cables and the bulletproof vest was recovered,” Captain Sibeko recounted.

She said detective Sergeant Zacharia Masindi was allocated the docket for investigation, evidence was collected and presented in court and he managed to secure a conviction.

“The accused was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment which is suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of housebreaking with intent to commit an offence and/or theft and/or attempted theft committed during the period of suspension.”

Tintswalo added that Parkview Police Station Commander Colonel Theledi Gopane welcomed the conviction and commended Detective Sergeant Masindi for his sterling work.
