School creates a bullying-free environment

SAXONWOLD – The school strongly expressed that it does not welcome bullying and it should not be tolerated elsewhere.

A few months into the year, social media was engulfed with videos which portrayed bullying. Local school, Saxonwold Primary School, was saddened by one of these bullying incidents that took place in Limpopo and felt prompted to act.

Head of innovation and marketing leader at Saxonwold Primary School, Frankie Cilliers said the school’s management was motivated to strengthen their efforts to educate their school community around this very important topic.

“We started the first leg of our anti-bullying campaign with discussions around the topic. The next stage of our project included an anti-bullying pledge wall, as well as pledges each learner and teacher had to sign to show their commitment to creating a safe, caring and loving space for all who enter our doors,” said Cilliers.

He added that the anti-bullying pledge wall was the idea of the school’s acting principal, Jadi Mgandela, and the school staff proudly took part in the initiative as ‘these pledges offer a visual display of how many incredible human beings in our school are committed to anti-bullying’.

Cilliers explained that the school opened the visual part of their campaign with teachers and learners discussing anti-bullying. Thereafter, the staff wrote their names and Grade7s placed their thumb prints on Saxonwold Primary School’s very own Anti-bullying Pledge Wall which was painted by the talented artist, Johannes Sjay Leie.

“Grade 1 to 6 learners and staff also signed our Anti-bullying Poster Pledges to show their commitment. We believe in a school that treats every member equally, a safe haven and where everyone is accepted. We strive to care and unite for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Through this practical and effective activity, we made it clear that we will not tolerate bullying in any form.”
