Talent scout shares advice for aspiring artists

ILLOVO – Verlinden said that success in the industry comes about through investing time in educating and empowering yourself and never giving up.

Fourways resident and director of the 33 and Me Talent Agency, based in Illovo, Elsubie Verlinden believes she was born to perform and create opportunities for aspiring artists.

Verlinden said she began her career in modeling from humble beginnings 24 years ago.

“I was handing out packets of Jungle Oats at robots and packing packets at Spar to support my dream of paying for modeling classes,” she explained.

She advised young talented individuals to never look at their current financial circumstances, but rather the size of the dream in their heart.

“Know that you are destined for greatness and grow through what you go through. Never allow anyone’s opinion of you to become your reality. It is a tough industry and there are many wannabe’s, but if you are driven by your heart and not distracted by fear, if you have a story to tell, nothing will ever stop you.”

Verlinden said she loved her work of educating and empowering aspiring artists to break into the industry and book professional work.

“Every day is exciting because every day there is a new casting, a new call back and a new booking.”
