A momentous achievement for Roedean School matriculants

PARKTOWN – The determination and effort have paid off with excellent matric results.

With a 100 per cent pass rate for their 2020 matric class, Roedean School was in a celebratory mood.
School executive head Fiona Rogers said the matrics attained a 100 per cent Bachelor’s Degree pass, and 265 distinctions among the 76 learners.

The school said 48 per cent of all subject results were distinctions and 82 per cent of all subject results were either an A or B symbol. Learner Alexandra Wrigley was ranked in the top 5 per cent of Independent Executive Board (IEB) learners in five or more subjects (commendable list). Husnaa Choonara was ranked in the top 5 per cent of IEB learners in six or more subjects (outstanding list).

Five learners were ranked within the top 1 per cent of IEB learners in one or more of the subjects including Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, geography, information technology, life sciences, maths, physical sciences and visual arts.

Rogers said both herself and the staff were extremely proud of all the learners as they celebrated the results and their success. “Last year was an extraordinarily challenging year and required the ability to adapt rapidly to constant change in your learning and home environments. To have obtained such excellent academic results in the face of great adversity is remarkable and you all deserve to feel proud of your achievements,” she told the matrics.

“The time, effort and determination you put into your work during the year and your meticulous preparation for the examinations have truly paid off. Each one of you rose to the challenge and each one of you acquitted yourself exceptionally well.”

She also paid tribute to the dedicated staff members whose commitment to the learners’ academic development, while also having to adapt to exponential changes required in both their work and their home environments, contributed significantly to the learners’ success.

“I trust that the confidence you should all have gained from your success in the National Senior Certificate examinations and your ability to adapt effectively to exponential change – your strong Adaptability Quotient – will stand you in good stead as you face the challenges of tertiary education over the next few years. I have no doubt that you will flourish as you go out into the world to lead lives of significance.”
