Police concerned over rise in common robberies

NORWOOD – Police are concerned regarding the rise in common robberies within the policing precinct.

Sixty-nine suspects were arrested for different crimes in the Norwood policing precinct over December.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said the arrests were made for the following crimes: murder (1), attempted murder (1), assault grievous bodily injury (4), fraud (2), possession of dagga (1), possession of car breaking implements (1), driving under the influence of alcohol (2), assault under domestic violence (3), common assault (7), intimidation (1), common theft (2), malicious damage to property (2), shoplifting (9), driving under the influence of alcohol (3), pointing of a firearm (1) and illegal immigrants (29).

Masotsha emphasised that the police were mainly concerned by the rise of common robberies where pedestrians were being robbed of their belongings on the streets. He said culprits often drove off using vehicles with unknown registration numbers.

“Be vigilant and always report any suspicious activities on 086 001 0111 or 011 483 4600/09/13,” said Masotsha.
