Childline Gauteng count their blessings

Children who live in a loving world, grow up to be extraordinary adults and we thank you South Africa for being such a caring nation!

Childline Gauteng is happy to serve children, families and communities through the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the festive season.

Director Lynne Cawood said, “As we reflect on the year almost at an end, we are mindful that although we are, as a society, going through very tough times, we are grateful for so many blessings – the ‘your child is my child’ values and the community support for the 300 000 callers/clients we assist annually, our partners who generously support our family services and our Sunlight Safe House foster children who bring us so much joy!”

Childline’s highlights of the year included the Smile a Rainbow campaign, designed pro bono by Net#workBBDO and supported by MTN, delivering masks to children countrywide with a message of hope and their 24/7 toll-free number to call for help.

Donations of food parcels or vouchers for so many clients struggling through lockdown, kindly supplied by the TSU CHI Foundation, DG Murray Trust and the Solidarity Fund were another highlight. “Our dedicated staff and volunteers who served on the Childline Helpline, around the clock, every day of the year, assisting thousands of children and their families with Covid-19 support, information and assistance to deal with the many challenges are another highlight,” said Cawood.

Their festive wish list includes previously loved children’s clothes (all sizes); food parcels for hungry clients; gift vouchers for children; staff and volunteers to appreciate their service throughout Covid-19 through providing a special Christmas treat for their own families; uninterruptable power supply to ensure services during load-shedding; and the hope that the basic needs of all families will be available.

Cawood said, “We wish all our partners the very best of holidays and a prosperous 2021. May all the goodness you put into the world keep transforming our society into one of kindness and compassion for all. Children who live in a loving world, grow up to be extraordinary adults and we thank you South Africa for being such a caring nation!”
