Joburg Central police arrest suspect in possession of a vehicle linked to robberies

JOBURG – An investigation is under way and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court.

Police detectives, in conjunction with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, arrested a 39-year-old male for possession of a vehicle used in the commission of a crime at Fordsburg on 27 August at 4.30pm.

According to Johannesburg Central Police Station spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, police received a tip-off about a vehicle that was being used to rob community members around the Johannesburg area. “The vehicle was used to rob people around Sophiatown, Linden and in the Johannesburg CBD. Police recovered several different number plates inside the boot,” explained Mbele

An investigation is under way and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

The station commander, Brigadier Irvin Perumal, commended the good work done by the police. Mbele added, “He [Perumal] urged the police to trace his [the suspect’s] accomplices because he was not working alone to commit a crime,” added Mbele.
