Parkview police warn of common robberies on the rise

According to spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, in one of the incidents, the victim was walking on Princess of Wales Street near Zoo Lake when a white car drove past her and made a U-turn.

Several cases of common robberies with the perpetrators using the same modus operandi were reported at Parkview Police Station.

According to spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, in one of the incidents, the victim was walking on Princess of Wales Street near Zoo Lake when a white car drove past her and made a U-turn. “One of the suspects jumped out of the car very fast, grabbed the victim’s cell phone and got into the car and they drove off,” said Sibeko.

“In the second incident, the victim was sitting in a restaurant in Parkview when an unknown male came behind and grabbed his cell phone and got into a blue metallic Toyota Corolla and drove off. ”  She added that in a third incident, the complainant was sitting in a restaurant in Parktown North when an unknown man grabbed his cell phone from his hand and jumped into the rear passenger side of a silver Toyota Etios. ”

Parkview detectives are investigating common robberies.”  Sibeko urged residents while walking or jogging to leave their valuables at home and to avoid leaving their phones and other valuable items on the table while in a restaurant.”

The police are appealing to the community to assist with information that could lead to the possible arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information may contact Parkview police or Crime Stop.”
