Foundation chairman urges community to keep James and Ethel Gray Park clean

MELROSE – The local loved James and Ethel Gray Park is up to standard thanks to over 100 volunteers and stakeholders.

The James and Ethel Gray Park has been getting a lot of tidying up recently and chairman of the James and Ethel Gray Park Foundation Sunil Geness asked residents to maintain the good trend. “The most important aspect of this Women’s Month is for all park users to contribute to the sustainability and maintenance of the park. We know most people will exercise or walk their dogs at the park this Women’s Day weekend, therefore, we would like to ask, especially men, that while they do so, to collect trash bags by our gazebo and pick up litter in the park as a gesture in kind,” Geness said.

He added that people should strictly stick to the safety recommendations of keeping the obligatory 3-metre distance, wearing masks as well as keep their dogs on leashes.

The chairman also extended his gratitude to the volunteers who help maintain the park and keep it tidy. “Since the beginning of the foundation, about 150 volunteers work on pro-bono and embark on weekly clean-ups of the park to make sure grass is not unkempt, pavements are levelled and more.”

He said people gave them positive feedback as they said the park looked pristine. People also expressed their delight at the ‘visibility project’ where branches hanging onto roads or pathways were trimmed, in turn, making roads and pathways more visible to drivers or walkers.

Geness believes that the foundation operated so efficiently because they involved various stakeholders in their activities who also share their expertise with each other.
